The Role
Overview
Lead estimator for marine/heavy civil projects, handling bids, contracts, and training.

Tasks
-Coordinates and cultivates strong business relationships with vendors and sub-contractors. -Performs site visits and investigations as needed. -Formulates and leads project estimates/proposals to ensure a quality, accurate and timely submission. This includes working closely with current team of estimators and project managers to provide turnkey cost estimates. -Performs additional assignments per Management’s direction. -Conducts constructability studies. -Performs material take-offs, organizes pre-bid data, researches past costs, and develops construction sequence. -Leads bid kick-off and board review meetings. -Develops project work plans, schedules, and submittals. -Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and contents of estimate. -Collaborates with other Ballard managers to determine win strategies for bids. -Leads project hand-off meetings with key operational staff. -Identifies project risks and potential contingencies. -Produces pre-bid construction schedules. -Attends and is an active participant in weekly job progress meetings with operations, accounting, and field staff. -Organizes and conducts handoff of project to operations if project awarded. -Will sit and stand for several hours at a time -Attends pre-job job meetings. -Presents estimate quantities, rationale, and scheme to management during bid reviews.

What You Bring
-Lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, squatting for various periods of time -Wears various PPE (respirators, fall protection, etc.) -Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Construction Engineering Management, Civil Engineering, or related field -Experience working on Joint Venture pursuits a plus -Working knowledge of standard marine construction practices -Experience working in heavy civil/marine construction with at least ten years of combined construction and estimating experience -Experience working on Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract projects a plus -Ability to work independently. Excellent organizational and time management skills -Working knowledge of standard marine and heavy civil construction practices -Strong technical writing skills and ability to contribute to proposal preparation -Ability to proactively identify issues and offer solutions -Will travel on land, water, and aircraft -Excellent interpersonal communication skills -Working outdoors in various temperatures and conditions -Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while satisfying customer needs and maintaining effective working relationships. -Experience in estimating projects with values up to $50 million -Ability to work achieve required deadlines -Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer -HCSS Heavy Bid experience a plus -Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, P6, and AutoCAD
