The Role
Overview
Design and supervise electric distribution projects, including overhead and underground systems.

Tasks
Review drawings for compliance with company and industry standards and quality Support project managers in maintaining client relationships. Edit master specification sections to be project specific. Research, specify and recommend commercially available equipment. Use computer-aided drafting tools such as AutoCAD & Civil 3D, CADWorx, Revit, MicroStation, AutoCAD Inventor, Bentley Substation, and/or Solidworks, as well as technical handbooks, utilitystandards, tables, and calculators to create relevant drawings and 3D models of facilities. Assign duties and schedules to team members, may be responsible for all phases of a project. Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials. Meet client and NV5’s requirements and standards. Assist in preparation of technical papers for submittal to regional/national publications. Develop control sequences for temperature control systems. Calculate costs and time schedules for proposed work. Make major design recommendations as part of a project team, and may participate in client presentations. Document existing conditions and perform troubleshooting. Attend construction progress meetings to solve non-routine technical issues and producereports. Develop details as required for a specific project. Manage and maintain design records and files. Produce sketches and system schematics for complicated design tasks such as layout of mechanical or electrical equipment rooms. Start learning how to calculate costs and time schedules for proposed work. Some travel to client sites as needed (expected to be no more than 30% of time). Complete as-built drawings. Assist in development of technical competence of project team members. What You Bring
Must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of both OH and UG construction, poles, conduits, substructures, cable and wire types, and connections. Experience with PLS-CADD or O-Calc overhead design software is strongly preferred for electric distribution roles At least 5 years of experience in the design of electric distribution projects in both overhead and underground configurations. Able to fulfill assignments that require independent judgment and evaluation. Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Architectural or Design Technologies, Mechanical or Electrical Technology or relevant field, or equivalent training and experience. 7-12 years of AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D experience Some knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project. (Preferred). Background as an electrical designer or planner with SDG&E or other comparable large electric utility. The pay range for this California position is $43.00- $60.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
