Tasks
As a culture champion, the Director will lead the development of a comprehensive Health, Safety, and Sustainability Program—shifting from compliance-based activities to a proactive, people-first culture rooted in accountability, continuous improvement, and environmental responsibility. Over time, this role will also advance the company’s ESG objectives, ensuring future-ready, efficient, and sustainable operations. The Director, Operations and Safety provides strategic and operational leadership across Carrier Enterprise Canada’s warehouse network, ensuring that operational performance, safety, and sustainability are fully aligned. This role oversees a team of Warehouse Managers and Operations Managers and is responsible for optimizing warehouse operations, facilities management, equipment utilization, and implementing standardized best practices across the network. -Collaborate with CE Domestic and Watsco ESG teams to leverage global best practices and ensure alignment with corporate sustainability goals. -Drive technology adoption and process optimization across hub distribution centres to enable scalable, efficient operations. -Develop and deliver safety communications, leadership training, and toolbox talks that engage employees and build awareness. -Ensure compliance with all Canadian health and safety legislation (OHSA, WSIB, WHMIS, TDG, and Transport Canada). -Lead, mentor, and develop Warehouse Operations team, fostering a high-performing, accountable, and safety-conscious team culture. -Compliance and audit results with timely closure of corrective actions. -Collaborate with Finance, Sales, Procurement, Supply Chain, Inventory & Planning and HR to align operational execution with organizational objectives. -Build a strong safety culture by fostering proactive engagement, accountability, and ownership at every level of the organization. -Ensure appropriate staffing levels across warehouse operations, considering seasonal and compliance program demands. -Champion Lean Six Sigma continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational outcomes. -Conduct root-cause analyses and implement sustainable corrective actions to prevent recurrence. -Promote employee engagement and education around sustainability initiatives. -Establish clear performance objectives and provide regular feedback and coaching. -Oversee warehouse operations, facilities management, equipment management, and quality programs for the Canadian network. -Lead CE Canada’s Incident Management protocols and ensure appropriate visibility and reporting to key stakeholders. -Establish and lead governance structures for safety, including the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and site-level safety reviews. -Develop and refine operational balanced scorecards and report on key performance indicators (capacity, productivity, safety, quality). -Contribute to ESG reporting and ensure compliance with relevant sustainability standards and frameworks. -Lead annual facility operational planning, budgeting, and resource allocation in alignment with corporate strategy. -Oversee any hub distribution centre relocations or changes in coordination with Real Estate and Finance teams. -Provide leadership and direction to Warehouse Managers and Operations Managers to ensure operational consistency, service excellence, and cost efficiency across all locations. -Develop and implement standardized operating procedures, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and quality. -Lead change management initiatives to continuously improve operational performance and customer satisfaction. -Support leadership development and succession planning within operations and safety teams. -Foster collaboration across departments and sites to drive consistency and shared ownership of results. -Define and implement a Quality Management System (QMS) across hub distribution centres, ensuring SOP compliance, training, and reporting. -Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive Health & Safety Management System including policies, risk assessments, training, and incident management.

What You Bring
-Expert knowledge of Canadian health and safety legislation (OHSA, WSIB, WHMIS, TDG). -Lean Six Sigma or Six Sigma certification preferred. -Improvement in employee engagement and safety culture metrics. -Proven success in developing or transforming safety and sustainability programs. -Strong business acumen and financial literacy (P&L, balance sheet). -Formal education and certification in Health & Safety and ESG required -PMP, ITIL, or P.Log. designations considered an asset. -Experience implementing ESG, sustainability, or quality management programs across multiple sites. -10-15+ years of progressive experience in operations, safety, logistics, or distribution leadership within a multi-site organization. -Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and Microsoft Office applications. -Demonstrated expertise in process optimization, technology adoption, and change management. -Operational efficiency metrics including capacity utilization, accuracy, productivity, and cost-to-serve. -University degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or Finance preferred.
