Overview

Design protection, control and communication schemes for digital substations using IEC 61850.

Tasks

-Use simulation and testing tools (e.g., Omicron CMC, Doble) for protection relay testing. -Contribute to the development of internal standards and best practices. -Maintain detailed engineering documentation including SCD, ICD, CID files. -Perform system integration and interoperability testing of multi-vendor IEDs. -Develop FAT/SAT procedures for digital substations. -Troubleshoot network issues using tools like Wireshark, NetScout, etc. -Ensure compliance with utility standards, IEEE, IEC, and local grid codes. -Prepare single-line diagrams, protection logic, and functional specifications. -Ensure secure communication protocols and compliance with cybersecurity standards (e.g., NERC CIP, IEC 62351). -Develop protection and control schemes for digital substations using IEC 61850. -Validate IEC 61850 configurations using engineering tools like IET600, PCM600, DIGSI, etc. -Design and configure substation LAN architecture including PRP/HSR redundancy. -Design and validate Ethernet-based communication networks for substations. -Configure Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) from vendors like Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, etc. -Implement GOOSE messaging, MMS, and Sampled Values as per IEC 61850.

What You Bring

-Strong understanding of International standards, respective country Grid codes and able to interpret the requirements. -Capacity to work within teams to solve technical problems and achieve a high level of assurance on project deliverables. -Hands on experience in operating design software’s like AutoCAD, DIGSI 5, PCM600, Ener vista, MicroStation. Experience of Python programming and ETAP is preferred. -BE/B Tech/ME/M Tech Electrical -Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills. -Experience with IED configuration tools and network design. -Minimum 5+ years of experience in protection engineering and digital substation design. -Strong communication and presentation skills to articulate a clear technical direction. -Experience with digital twin or model-based engineering tools. -Exposure to cloud-based substation monitoring or asset management platforms. -Certification in IEC 61850 or substation automation. -Familiarity with SCADA, HMI, and gateway integration. -Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, substation automation, and protection systems. -Excellent Technical Report writing skills. -Knowledge of time synchronization protocols (IEEE 1588/PTP). -Relay Setting calculation for various protection schemes is desirable -Presenting well to clients (internal and external) and having good social and networking skills
