Tasks

Develop, oversee, and manage the annual safety labor and operating budget. Continue development, implementation, and management of LaBella's comprehensive health and safety and driver safety programs and policies across the organization. Develop long-term business plans and oversee broad initiatives to ensure strategic goals are met. Ensure completion of required recordkeeping and reporting for OSHA, ISNetworld, DOT, and other similar entities, as well as maintaining a database of industry files such as MSDS. This position will oversee LaBella's Health and Safety program and corporate H&S staff to lead regulatory compliance, workplace safety, and driver safety. This position is tasked with ensuring a safe workplace by planning and executing safety practices utilizing preventive measures and training and education for employees as required by local laws, compliance and best practices in the industry. Key responsibilities include collaborating with leadership on health & safety strategy, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, promoting a culture of safety, managing safety staffing and budget, and acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders. Lead internal team of safety professionals and coordinate closely with Fleet & Compliance Manager, Human Resources Dept., and Division Directors. Facilitate cross functional/cross divisional Safety Leadership Team and Safety Council to develop, implement, and monitor safety processes, policies, and procedures that support the overall health and safety strategy. Integrate health and safety considerations into overall business operations and strategy. Provide proactive leadership and continued development of workplace safety culture managing all aspects of the safety and driver safety programs. Promote safety awareness amongst the employees and provide safety advice to top management. Periodically conduct and assign staff to conduct safety inspections and audits (including on job sites) to assess employee compliance with safety policies and regulations. Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems and work to implement changes required. Interface with HR on workers compensation claims and communication with injured workers and return to work strategies. Review safety disciplinary actions for cause (root cause analysis) and provide recommendations for remedial/follow up actions. Provide safety training to employees and foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Perform general safety incident trend monitoring and analyses. Work with stakeholders, Safety Leadership Team, and Safety Council to identify areas of improvement. Ensure investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify causes and develop preventative solutions occur according to approved processes and procedures. Communicate and collaborate with clients, subconsultants, subcontractors, insurance company, and regulatory agencies on health and safety matters. Lead management of employee H&S and driver records including but not limited to annual physicals, medical monitoring, driver qualification files, OSHA certificates, competent person certificates, and other related records Identify, assess, and mitigate health and safety hazards associated with processes, materials, and equipment. Ensure the organization adheres to all applicable federal, state, and local health and safety and driver safety regulations, laws, and standards.

What You Bring

Ability to travel. In-depth knowledge of OSHA and FMCSA standards and applicable regulatory requirements. At least ten years of corporate health and safety experience, including construction and driver safety, with at least 5 years' experience in a leadership or management position. Excellent verbal communication skills for both one-on-one conversations and for speaking before groups. Ability to multi-task. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through. Strong leadership, team management, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to influence behavior and drive initiatives. Self-motivated to continuously seek ways to aid and improve health and safety processes. An uncompromising ability to keep information confidential. Possess CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification or be able to obtain certification within 6 months. Ability to work in a team environment and to communicate effectively with people at all levels within the organization. Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Safety Management, or a related field. Ability to conduct training. Strong skills in use of technology, including experience with a Learning Management System and Incident Management system. Excellent written communication skills with the ability to independently compose clear reports and directive communications to management and employees. Possess extensive knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations, safety protocols, and risk management.
