Senior Roadway Designer

Overview

Lead design of highways and roads, produce reports/specs, mentor staff, ensure approvals.

Tasks

-Prepare preliminary designs for CADD staff and review drawings for compliance with applicable industry and client standards. -Prepare preliminary design reports (PDR), design criteria, preliminary and detailed designs associated with new and/or the rehabilitation of divided highways, arterial regional roads, collector roads, and local roads. -Prepare Contract Specifications, Tender Documents, and Applications for Agency Approvals. -Review and issue finalized Shop Drawings. -Liaise with Clients, Sub-consultants, Contractors and construction supervision staff. -Have a track record of gaining approval of infrastructure designs from MTO, roads authorities and environmental agencies. -Coordinate and mentor junior staff working within the division. -Assist with the preparation of Proposals for future projects.

What You Bring

-Comprehensive knowledge with MTO and Metrolinx standards, including various Municipal & Regional design and drafting standards. -At least 10 years of experience. -Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deliver projects under stringent schedules in a fast-paced turnaround environment. -Independent, Organized and Motivated Team player with excellent oral and written communication skills. -Highly proficient in the use of MTO’s software applications CPS and HiCo. -Emphasis and proficiency with Microstation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D. Experience with earlier versions of Microstation and InRoads will be considered. -Strong computer software skills with ProjectWise, Word, Excel & MS Project. -Skilled in cost estimating, quantity preparation and specification writing.
