The Role

Overview

Commissioner tests, troubleshoots, and retrofits wind turbines during commissioning.

Tasks

-Commissions and ensures the functionality of Nordex wind turbines using a series of documented policies and procedures. -Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies. -Conducts independent fault analysis and eliminates possible issues to find the root cause. -Eliminates, independently, minor faults. -Properly use applicable safety equipment, including but not limited to eye protection, hearing protectors, steel-toe boots, and hard hats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. -Document part usage and complete work orders as required. -Tests the electrical and mechanical protectors. -Inventories and identifies spare parts and other materials needed and initiates the procurement process by coordinating with the site manager. -Work may involve lifting of materials up to 23kg (50 pounds). Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but is not limited to eye safety glasses; hearing protectors; steel-toe boots; and hardhats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. -Follows all safety policies, procedures, instructions, and guidelines. -Manages and be responsible for material, tools, and property belonging to Nordex. -Performs assigned tasks following Nordex manuals and regulations, most economically for Nordex, on time and with the highest quality. -Documents and reports technical problems, faults, component defects, daily activities, and other performance data on time and per company procedures. -Connects the wind turbine to the remote surveillance system for functionality testing. -Supports Operations and Maintenance activities when not assigned to an active project. -Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards. -Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure a safe working environment.

What You Bring

-Ability to analyze and solve problems independently with a high level of results orientation as demonstrated by the identification of non-conformities, completion of punch lists and the application of a structured approach to mechanical and electrical troubleshooting. -Ability to travel domestic and international locations to project sites and on business as required and ability to obtain a passport. -Competent in switching of various types of switchgear. -Thrive in a diverse and fast-paced environment. -Fluency in English and French is mandatory. Spanish and/or German is a plus -Must be able to work in Canada with no Company sponsorship and have the ability to obtain a US passport. -1–2 years of comparable experience and training in the wind industry. -Demonstrated ability to supervise several activities at once, organize/prioritize work, meet deadlines, and prepare reports -Knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fiber optics, their function, and repair of wind turbines, Nordex and Acciona technologies. -Ability to spend 100% of the time at the wind farms during the commissioning process. -Ability to move and manipulate up to 23kg (50 pounds), climb vertical ladders, and work at heights above 100+ meters (300+ feet). Ability to meet specific weight limits of 120 kg (265lbs) max in order to utilize climbing equipment. -Technical two-year college degree or at least two years of electrical trade experience. -Must meet the weight requirement of safety gear, 260 lbs. or less. -Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver’s license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver’s abstract checks to confirm continued insurability. -Demonstrate a strong understanding of and commitment to safety protocols and procedures. -Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred or a 2-year technical degree in Wind Energy. -Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position -Ability to work in confined spaces, handle weight up to 100 pounds and wear full personal protective equipment. -Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position. -Ability to prioritize work, multi-task efficiently, meet deadline obligations, prepare reports, and outline what is best practice. -Speak and understand English fluently to effectively communicate safety and job-related information, follow safety instructions, and collaborate with English-speaking supervisors and team members. -Ability to successfully complete all Canadian regulatory laws surrounding pre-employment screening requirements. -Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and troubleshooting skills. -Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required. -Possess a strong code of ethics and integrity. -Retrofits turbine following approved work instructions.
