Tasks

-Set up new state withholding accounts -Transmit information or documents using computer, mail, or facsimile machine -Create union pay tables in the payroll system -Maintain calendar indicating scheduled pay increases and dates when employees are to be added to benefit programs that require payroll deductions -Prepare and submit union fringe benefit reports with the proper fund office -Time Entry and processing of weekly and bi-weekly payroll -Explain payroll options to employees, such as direct deposit -Prepares and distributes payroll checks on appropriate dates as directed, along with payroll registers as necessary -Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate -Assist with union audits -Prepare and file payroll tax federal and state withholding returns -Prepares manual payroll checks as required in case of payroll errors or terminations -Assist with preparation of year end documents such as W2 forms -Make required changes to employee information such as change of address, withholdings, or regular deductions

What You Bring

-Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology -1 year of experience in the field or in a related area required -High School Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree preferred -Customer service skills -Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards -Team building skills -Effective written and verbal communication skills -Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures -Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs -Analytical and problem-solving skills -Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone -Excellent interpersonal skills -Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and routine keyboard operations -Ability to maintain confidentiality -Organizational skills -Time management skills -Knowledge and basic understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws -Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial data -Decision making skills -Computer skills include the ability to operate accounting, spreadsheet, word processing and e-mail programs at a proficient level -Effective listening skills
