The Role

Overview

Perform mechanical and electrical tasks on power substation equipment, ensuring safety and compliance.

Tasks

-Participate in preventative maintenance outages at clients’ facilities. -Circuit breaker installation- conductor fabrication, control wiring, gas filling, and grounding. -Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to install electrical apparatus according to manufacturer’s specifications. -Demonstrates the responsibility required to keep tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean and organized condition and up to date with service and calibrations. -Power cable installation- duct banks, trend ways, conduit, cable pulling, excavations, splicing, terminations, grounding, and trenching. -Assist in the execution of mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities. -Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner. -Use industry related hand tools and power tools. -Protective relay panel installation- point to point wire designations, wire labeling, wire terminations, and cable tray assembly. -Participates in weekly safety meetings and trainings.

What You Bring

-Must be willing to obtain a company paid TWIC, OSHA 10 hour, NFPA 70-E, and CPR training. -Must have knowledge and be able to perform a majority of the following substation construction tasks: -Must be willing to take calls and give technical advice outside of the normal workday. -Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs. -Substation installation- aluminum buss welding, conductor assembly, ground grid installation, and steel erection. -Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations. -Strong communication and problem-solving skills. -Must be able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town projects. -Must be willing and capable of working with your hands and working in the field. -Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations. -Ability to push, pull, lift, stoop, climb, shovel; work at elevated positions. -Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Military experience is preferred but not required. -Transformer assembly- bushing, radiator, conservator, oil, and arrestor installation. Transformer oil processing and vacuum filling. -Completed Substation or Lineman Apprenticeship program is a plus, but not required. -Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office. -Ability to operate power distribution components, specialized testing tools and diagnostic equipment. -Ability to work independently while utilizing excellent judgement. -Must have excellent attention to detail. -Requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience in electrical substation construction. -Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines. -Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office -Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems as they arise. -Demonstrates organizational skills to include on time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and any other documentation and reporting requirements. -Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, education verification, motor vehicle report, physical abilities test, an approved hair and urine drug screen, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing. -Must have a valid driver’s license and must have or be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs. (CDL preferred) -Must be able to work overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays. -Must have a good working knowledge of bucket trucks, line trucks, digger trucks, excavators, trenchers, cranes, hydraulic crimpers, conduit benders, cable prep tools, cable pullers, and welders. -Has demonstrated the ability to be consistently on time for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc. -Ability to be out in the elements for long periods of time. -Must have intermediate level computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
