HV Underground Transmission Engineer

Overview

Design, specification, and supervision of high‑voltage underground transmission cable projects.

Tasks

-Prepare specifications power cable route specifications, and reports and progress reports -Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required. -Perform design reviews, and verification of design. -Support factory inspections Test (FAT). -Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, electromechanical and thermomechanical forces and EMF calculations, heath induced voltage calculations -Confirm that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the specifications, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality -Confirm correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, -Confirm that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the program to proceed without delay -Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design. -Attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors

What You Bring

-Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE. -Experience working with major global cable OEMs. -Minimum 8 years of direct experience with underground and/or subsea cable design and installation. -Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or related engineering discipline, from a recognized institution. Master’s degree is preferred. -Ability to work with cable design software such as CYMCAP. -Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) License or ability to obtain within 6 months -Experience with HVDC and subsea cable technologies -Ability and willingness to travel within North America. -Active/ongoing involvement in power cable related working groups and standards committees such as ICC or CIGRE
