The Role

Overview

Perform drilling, sampling, and site investigation for geotechnical projects.

Tasks

-Communicates with Project teams -Retrieves and logs samples -Loads and unload augers, drill rods and other drilling equipment -Investigates subsurface conditions -Performs various drilling activities to obtain boring samples. Examples include soil drilling, rock coring, sampling, classifications, in-situ testing, and monitoring well installation -Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work -Responsible for drill rig transportation -Identifies and locates utilities and other site safety concerns -Assembles and disassembles augers/drill rods -Recognizes and identifies soil and rock types and material classifications -Cleans and maintains equipment -Directs site inquiries from general public to the project team -Evaluates sites for drill rig access requirements -Prepares tooling and supplies for the day’s tasks -Assists with the location of borings -Operates drilling equipment at shallow to moderate depths -May work in office laboratory and the field -Maintains record log of drilling activities -Performs site clean up -Identifies and coordinates daily work schedules at job site

What You Bring

-Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time -May require state or local drilling license -Must be bilingual and able to verbally communicate in English and Spanish -Must be able to work off shifts and overtime -Ability to travel up to 25% of the time -Ability to climb occasionally -Requires basic math skills -Ability to kneel and squat occasionally -Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance. -Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication -Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound. -2 years of geotechnical drilling experience required -Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record (required) -Ability to receive work instructions and follow tasks -Must have experience performing mud rotary drilling -Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
