Tasks

-Lead all external financial audits, tax filings, and financial disclosures -Ensure accurate preparation of FAR-compliant financials for government-funded contracts, while maintaining GAAP-based internal statements for management and auditors -Evaluate and implement financial technology or ERP upgrades as needed -Build and lead annual planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management -Own the full lifecycle of project billing and cost reporting—from time entry to client invoicing -Implement and maintain internal controls, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance (federal, state, and local) -Standardize WIP, margin tracking, revenue recognition, and client reporting across multi-agency contracts -Prepare board-level reports and help shape long-term investment and hiring decisions -Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure timely, accurate billing and cost tracking -Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, and monthly/annual close -Help recruit and mentor future finance team members as the department scales -Drive process improvements that streamline billing cycles and cash collection -Provide financial models, KPIs, and business insights to support growth strategy -Collaborate with HR, operations, and project management teams to ensure financial alignment -Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and executive leadership on all financial matters -Design scalable systems, tools, and workflows to support rapid growth

What You Bring

-CPA strongly preferred -Proven success building or leading finance functions in growing organizations -Strong understanding of project costing, billing, and time-and-materials business models -15+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or FP&A roles -Deep expertise in FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) is mandatory -Executive presence and strong communication skills—able to clearly present data to non-financial stakeholders -High proficiency with financial systems and Excel; experience with platforms like Deltek, QuickBooks, or other ERPs a plus -Experience in the AEC industry, with direct exposure to civil engineering or construction firms working with city/state government agencies -Thorough understanding of GAAP, with the ability to manage both frameworks in parallel
