The Role

Overview

Design and manage roadway projects per SCDOT standards in Myrtle Beach

Tasks

-Work with Project Management to ensure projects are completed on schedule and under budget. Must be able to independently manage project tasks. -Develop effective/innovative designs for interstate widening, interchange/intersection improvements, traffic management, and other projects on State and County highway improvement projects. -Prepare and present reports, drawings, and technical documents related to roadway projects, ensuring precision and clarity. -Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and the public, to address concerns, provide technical support, and ensure project success. -Perform engineering calculations and analyses to validate design choices and optimize roadway performance. -Conduct regular field inspections to monitor construction progress, identify issues, and ensure adherence to project specifications and safety standards. -Stay updated with SCDOT policies, regulations, and industry best practices, and apply this knowledge to ensure compliance and promote innovation. -Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant tools to create and modify roadway plans, profiles, and cross-sections. -Maintain organized documentation/archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals. -Proactively communicate with clients, environmental agencies, and federal entities on the implications of the construction. -Provide coordination of project execution and control on roadway design projects to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through final design. -Provide internal quality control for construction drawings, design calculations, and specifications to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability. -Assist in preparing cost estimates, project schedules, and bid packages for roadway projects. -Coordinate with project team, contractors, vendors, and other consultants to ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design requirements. -Assist in business development by contributing and assisting with proposals and business opportunities.

What You Bring

-Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering accurate and high-quality work. -Effective communication and presentation abilities, with the capability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences. -Proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and ProjectWise. -Strong understanding of SCDOT policies, guidelines, and design standards. -7-10 years of experience in roadway engineering, with specific experience working with the SCDOT desired. -Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. -Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. -Experience with conducting site visits, collecting data, and performing field inspections. -Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace. -Strong familiarity with SCDOT and South Carolina County projects. -Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field is required. -Knowledge of AASHTO and SCDOT design criteria and specifications. -Sound knowledge of roadway design principles, geometric design, and transportation engineering. -Experience with Design-Bid-Build projects is highly desired. -Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects concurrently. -Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of South Carolina is required. (Bonus if licensed in additional states in the SE)
