Tasks

-Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. -Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs, including design/build and EPC. -Perform design work as required by the project that is beyond the estimator scope of experience; handle any major technical problems encountered during bid preparation. -Provide leadership and strategy in subcontractor and vendor selection process; May lead small estimating teams and lead estimates for projects. -Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions. -Reviews all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions. -Consult with owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc. -Utilize engineer techniques and procedures to conduct investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures. -Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate. -Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required. -Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present. -Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry. -Reviewing and assisting with proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates

What You Bring

-Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment -Ability to go to site locations as required for walkdowns, and other estimating related functions -Work productively and meet deadlines timely -If degreed, 10+ years' related estimating experience with extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with complex Vertical Building projects and design/build work -Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint) and proficient with various estimating tools -Become proficient in Kiewit’s estimating program, “InEight Estimate”. -Experience leading estimates and estimating teams, providing coaching/mentoring is required at this level -Must be willing to work in our Springfield Virginia office full time, or majority of the time -Regular, reliable attendance -Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills -Ability to perform estimating duties as outlined above, ability to consult with stakeholders in bid preparation, and interface with clients. -Undergraduate or graduate degree in mechanical, electrical, civil or construction-related technology, OR minimum of 12 years of extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above.
