Overview

Tasks

-Operational Compliance: Identify, within the team, instances of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and/or relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, reporting these instances and escalating issues as appropriate. -Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviors within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate. -Completing day-to-day inspections of Municipal/Residential Building projects in accordance with client terms of reference and manuals; -Monitoring contractor work for compliance with applicable safety and environmental legislation; -External Communications: Help others get the most out of external communications systems by offering support and advice. -Taking action, in consultation with client and in accordance with contract requirements, when non-conformances are observed; -Coordinating engineering team project support; -Monitoring contractor work for compliance with project design and specifications; -Mentoring junior staff; -Leadership and Direction: Communicate the local action plan; explain how this relates to the function's strategy and action plan and to the broader organization's mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals. -Performance Management: Respond to personal objectives and use performance management systems to improve personal performance; or monitor the performance of the team, allocate work and review completion, take appropriate corrective action to ensure timeliness and quality, and contribute to formal individual performance management and appraisal. -Making recommendations / proposing solutions for emerging project issues. Work environment is fast-paced and requires significant collaboration between client/constructor and engineering team. -Work Scheduling and Allocation: Assign short-term work schedules to a team of subordinates in order to achieve expectations while following established timelines. -Quality Assurance: Plan and coordinate testing and inspection of products and processes. Implement corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives and monitor them to make sure they are effective. -Organizational Capability Building: Provide coaching to team members to develop their skills. -Construction Management: Supervise others on a construction project, working within established operational systems. -Daily completion of project records / diary entries;

Requirements

What You Bring

-Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence; -Knowledge of Ontario Building Code; -Client focused; willing to reprioritize tasks to assist client in solving problems related to cost and schedule; -A college diploma or university degree in construction, civil engineering or architectural technology -Past experience as a building inspector is considered an asset; -Working safely and observing / working in conformance with GHD’s Behaviour-Based Safety culture; -Minimum 5 years' experience; -OACETT designation, or PEO designation, or Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) for residential construction considered an asset; -Sound judgment and decisiveness;

Benefits

-Working overtime hours as necessary, up to 50 hours per week. Work is seasonal in nature and will likely involve greater hours of work in summer than in winter months;
