Senior Engineer - Tailings
Hatch
The Role
Overview
Senior geotechnical engineer designing tailings storage facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- feasibility studies
- proposal prep
- geotechnical analysis
- tsf design
- field investigation
- instrumentation monitoring
Tasks
-Prepare and review trade-off studies, feasibility to detailed engineering studies, engineering reports, drawings and specifications for mine waste disposal. -Prepare and review proposals including cost estimates using Hatch’s internal proposal software system -Support the team in identifying and solving geotechnical issues. A common example for a practitioner with geotechnical engineering background is to have a reasoned insight of settlements, liquefaction potential, slope stabilization, pore pressure generation, excavation and backfilling procedures, and related problems. -Carry out a tailings storage facility design project by completing and/or guiding the required geotechnical engineering analysis and coordinating a multi-discipline team. The study level can range from conceptual, pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed engineering or construction. -Develop and manage field and laboratory investigation programs to support the design of tailings storage facilities. -Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers -Develop and manage geotechnical instrumentation monitoring programs. -Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
Requirements
- autocad
- geostudio
- python
- professional engineer
- 12 years
- civil engineering
What You Bring
-Valid passport preferably with international recognition as well as a valid driver’s license. -Valid professional engineering registration in the USA -Ability to travel domestically and internationally. -Familiar with AutoCAD Civil3D environment -Works well and seamlessly in an international team with a multi-disciplinary approach and a strong client focus. -Minimum of 12 years’ experience in a role leading to this opportunity. -Support field operations through supervision, troubleshooting and monitoring. A practitioner with geotechnical engineering background would require experience in drilling, carrying out and understanding in situ tests, piezocone soundings, reconnaissance trenches, as well as tailings storage facility construction, subgrade compaction assessment, and installation of geosynthetics, etc. -Proficient in GeoStudio or Rocscience package and advance use of Excel. Experience in deformation analyses would be considered a plus. -Construction/field experience (construction quality assurance in geotechnical/hydrotechnical facilities. -Be able to carry out slope stability and seepage analysis and understand contractive (liquefaction) behavior under static and earthquake loading scenarios. Proficient in geotechnical modeling software, such as SLOPE/W, SEEP/W and SIGMA/W. Support the team in coordinating geotechnical models of tailings storage facilities, especially with limit equilibrium and dynamic deformation under a variety of loading conditions. -Highly proficient in MS Office suite of tools including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. -Preferred abilities with computer programming in Python or Visual Basic. -Bachelor degree(s) in Civil, Geological, or Mining engineering and/or post-graduate in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited University. -Excellent verbal and written (English) communication skills. Preferred bilingual proficiency in (English/Spanish).
