Overview
Install, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC/chiller systems at Camp Lejeune.

Tasks
-Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units -Tests joints and connections in refrigerant piping for leaks using leak detector, verifies leak free using vacuum pump and vacuum hold test -PRACTICE WORKPLACE SAFETY in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of HVAC equipment -Required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance on HVAC equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and handling hazardous materials -Install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging up to 500 tons cooling capacity in warehouses, barracks and commercial buildings -Assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques -Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools, cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment. Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant, installs various refrigerant valves in circuit(s) -Test and verify proper operation of components, connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and ventilation fans -Diagnose and repair various refrigerant systems to include; Variable Refrigerant Flow Systems, Chillers, Reversible Chillers, CRAC Units -Including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) -Prepare work orders and cost materials estimates -Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to insure proper operation -Adds/removes freon to refrigerant systems to achieve proper subcooling and superheat -Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands

-High school diploma, GED or equivalent amounts of technical training and experience -US citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations -Regular, dependable attendance -Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of HVAC equipment -Experience must include inspection, disassembly, assembly, replacement and repair of heating, ventilation, refrigeration and/or air conditioning systems to include compressors, motors, burners, pumps, filters, ductwork, pipes, valves, refrigerants and their recovery systems and pressure vessels -EPA Universal Refrigeration License -Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: indoor air monitoring equipment and interpret resulting data; standards for design and construction; air conditioning and heating codes; hazards and safety precautions; and refrigerant handling and disposal -Be adaptable and flexible in work situations -Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted -Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces -Knowledge and proficiency of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of commercial and industrial grade HVAC equipment -Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions -Experience in installing, calibrating, troubleshooting and replacement of control systems is required -Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking -4+ years of ADVANCED experience in the maintenance, repair, installation and operation of COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning systems -Valid driver's license compliant with REAL ID Act or willing and able to obtain one -Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping -Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
