The Role

Overview

Manage highway/bridge construction projects, overseeing contracts, schedules, quality, and staff.

Tasks

-Review and recommend approval/denial on contractors' submittals. -Manage contractors and coordinate with outside agencies, design professionals and other project participants in the successful execution of the construction, schedule, cost, contract administration and quality aspects of highway/bridge construction projects. -Manage several projects at one time and be highly organized. -Maintain a safe work environment. -Prepare and process change orders. -Provide advice/consultation to client on construction matters, including compliance with federal/state laws and regulations. -Provide supervision/direction/training of staff with Inspection, documentation, and safety awareness. -Oversee and develop staff. -Be active with local engineering groups. -Review and check inspectors pay quantities. -Assist in development of new business, marketing to potential and existing clients. -Attend progress meetings and prepare meeting minutes. -Ensure materials meet specification and contract requirements. -Investigate and recommend design changes to the plans. -Interpret, organize, execute, manage and coordinate assignments on projects. -Identify/communicate resources needed to address successful execution of projects. -Monitor construction project activities and maintain proper documentation of the work. -Coordinate with contractor, client, and staff daily to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with the plans & specifications.

What You Bring

-Thorough knowledge of Caltrans specifications & construction contract administration procedures. -Experience with Caltrans construction procedures/document. -BA/BS + 8 years or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. -10+ years of experience with construction of highways/roads/bridges. -Able to effectively communicate and negotiate with contractors and clients. -Experience with Primavera scheduling, and dispute/claim resolution. -Must possess a valid California driver's license. -Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). -5+ years of experience with Caltrans highway/bridge construction and maintenance projects. -Registration as a California Professional Engineer. -Working knowledge of State/Federal Highway and Bridge Construction specifications & construction contract administration procedures. -Extensive knowledge of highway/bridge design, construction and material.
