Tasks
-Work with Head of Department/VP-Controller, etc. to address issues / needs of the department and assist with administration of projects in the group -Review accounting position memos documenting accounting treatment of new/unusual items -Communicate and coordinate effectively with Hines functional groups (e.g., Lease Administration, Finance Business Partners, Transactions) and appropriate representatives of external parties -Analyze/Assess merits of new programs, technology, etc. -Maintain / Interpret internal controls through documented policies and procedures to ensure accounting record integrity, reliability and asset preservation -Exchange ideas, information, and opinions with others to arrive at decisions or solutions -Review ad hoc reports generated for upper management and external users as well as other significant internal and external reports -Ensure all accounting records and reports are maintained in a timely, accurately and in accordance with GAAP or other basis of accounting. Special consideration to areas such as debt modifications, acquisitions/dispositions, interest capitalization, etc. -Identify risks; propose and implement risk mitigation strategies -Review and approve funding request to investors and lenders -Maintain working knowledge of, and compliance with, various legal documents, including but not limited to: Loan agreements, JV agreements, Property Management agreements, leases, etc. -Provide guidance and oversight to Accounting and Operations team on complex matters -Supervise and oversee the training and development of accounting personnel and assigned subordinate staff -General ledger review and analysis -Maintain a general understanding of the budget and forecasts to be informed on the financial state of projects -Treasury functions including review of bank reconciliations and contribution/distribution calculations and understanding cash flow projections -Review and confirm integrity of monthly and quarterly reporting for property(s) or project(s) -Review tax projections and tax preparation workpapers -Administer financial statement and internal audits -Review and approve reserves and write-offs in accordance with governing agreements -Direct and monitor the working relationships subordinates have with their counterparts internally and externally -Complete periodic performance reviews and compensation recommendations for direct reports

What You Bring
-Ability to lead, plan and manage activities to meet deadlines -Work indoors approximately 100% of the time -Tax experience preferred -Ability to handle complex (e.g. very technical) ownership/equity structures -Effective people management skills -Excellent verbal and written communication skills -Three or more years of prior management experience required -Commercial real estate accounting required -Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related discipline from an accredited institution -Public accounting experience is strongly preferred -CPA required -Possess initiative to assume additional responsibilities -Six or more years professional accounting experience, preferably a combination of public and industry -Strong analytical, organizational, and coordination skills
