Mechanical Designer- (mid to senior) Industrial Facilities

Kiewit

The Role

Overview

Create 3D mechanical models, layouts, and piping designs for industrial facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • project scheduling
  • 3d modeling
  • isometric drawings
  • mechanical design
  • design coordination
  • construction support

Tasks

-Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion. -Design material handling systems and generate isometric and detail drawings for systems typical for pulp and paper, bulk solids material handling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, pneumatic conveying, chutework, and ductwork. -Develop the capability to navigate 3D models and check for interferences and constructability. -Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. -Utilize SmartPlant 3D (or other 3D design software) to create 3D equipment models based off equipment drawings. -Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI’s, providing creative design solutions, etc. -Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required. -Design mechanical systems, equipment and piping. Generate isometric drawings for systems typical for industrial energy, datacenters, bulk solids material handling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, chilled water systems, heat exchangers for water circulation, cooling distribution units (CDU), Computer Room Air Handling Units (CRAH), Fan Walls, Containment walls for Air cooling, fan walls, process steam, process water, drains, and general plant/facility water, compressed air, and gas systems. -Perform early project design work related to facility layout and equipment general arrangement. -Coordinate with other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results. -Develop and check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
