Tasks
-Create detailed designs of overhead and underground systems including customer services that incorporate best utility practices in accordance with applicable standards, laws, codes and regulations to deliver power in a safe, cost effective and reliable manner. The incumbent will be required to perform their designs within CADD software. -Assesses and resolves customer complaints and advises customers and their representatives of Alectra Utilities’ standards and associated fees. -Review easement documents and provide comments in regards to expansion and rebuild projects. -Ensure designs meet all regulatory and applicable standards such as ESA Regulation 22/04, CSA standards as well as adhere to Alectra’s own policies, procedures and standards. -Provides training, mentoring and assistance to other Design Technologists, including Co-Op students. -Prepares Offer’s to Connect and Draft Plan Comments for specific sites, outlining financial, construction, compliance and legal obligations of the customer and Alectra. -Perform field line staking as required. -Responsible for scope, budget and material requirements for the duration of all assigned projects. Perform required calculations and prepare detailed schematics for proposed projects involving system expansion and rebuilds. -Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation, EUSR rules, Alectra policies and procedures and safe work practices that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using Alectra procedures. -Communicates and provides technical support and guidance to municipalities, developers, contractors, electrical/civil consultants, architects, field supervisors, government agencies and customers to ensure work co-ordination and compliance with specifications, policies, standards, procedures and practices. -Determines customer and electrical load requirements from attending site meetings and/or service applications for new, temporary and upgraded electrical services. Integrated co-ordination of system schematics with design technicians, Control Room operators and with other applicable workgroups. -To liaise with the City, Region, other Utilities, Customers, Developers and Contractors related to the design and construction of projects. Interdepartmental liaison and project co-ordination with other utilities and authorities to process/secure permits, agreements, etc. -Monitoring construction on all projects by regularly scheduled job site reviews. Administer the Joint use transfer list and coordinate with external agencies.

What You Bring
-Knowledge of materials, construction standards, approval process, PUCC’s, permits, etc. -Familiarity with Ontario Energy Board Distribution System Code, and other requirements by Provincial and Federal regulated agencies. -Requires advanced skills in the use of computer software programs for CAD, GIS, document management system, work order management system, customer information system, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications. -In-depth knowledge of design criteria such as tension and guying calculations, conductor load, etc. -Valid class G driver’s license. -Eligible for OACETT registration. -Demonstrated ability to solve moderately complex problems. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong commitment to providing customer service. -Minimum five (5) years related experience. -As per the Collective Agreement, any permanent new hire in their bargaining unit must remain in their current position for at least twelve (12) months prior to commencing a new position. -Completion of a 3 year Engineering Technology program, with preference given to Electrical (Power Option) and/or Civil (Structural Option). -Familiarity with design of overhead, underground distribution systems up to 44kV level. -Familiarity with materials and construction standards. -Knowledgeable of Civil infrastructure such as water main, sewers, road construction, soil conditions and able to interpret plan and profile drawings.
