Tasks

-Direct junior engineers as necessary -Collaborate with architects, engineers and other clients -Perform fire protection engineering design functions on a variety of large public and private developments -Maintain currency on development in codes and standards within the Fire Protection industry -Executes Strategy: Ensuring that people remain focused on accomplishing strategic goals by thoughtfully planning tasks and overcoming obstacles. -Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects. -Develop fire protection system requirements to include, but not limited to fire pumps, tanks, distribution systems, hydrants, and sprinkler systems -Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects. -Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). -Fosters a Learning Culture: Creating an inspiring and engaging atmosphere where people feel motivated to grow, experiment, and learn new skills. -Identifies Talent: Actively maintaining awareness of internal and external talent, current abilities, and hiring needs. -Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff. -Evaluate fire protection and alarm systems on existing facilities -Sharing Information: Conveying up-to date information in the most efficient and useful manner to the appropriate stakeholders. -Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.

What You Bring

-Working knowledge of NFPA standards. Experience with DoD UFC criteria a plus -Specialization in fire sprinkler systems and other water-based systems design -Critical Thinking: Analyzing problems and solutions by evaluating the quality of the information available from different sources and avoiding decision-making bias. -Experience leading or growing a team is a plus -Experience designing fire protection equipment, alarms, and suppression systems for commercial and industrial facilities -Minimum 10 years’ experience with fire codes and in designing fire protection systems -The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities -Working knowledge of applicable computer-aided design programs (Revit, Autosprink for Revit and AutoCAD) -Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer -Experience with building and fire safety code analysis, fire dynamic analysis, and fire risk analysis is required -Experience in developing contract documents for a wide variety of fire alarm and suppression systems (including special suppression systems) -Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients. -Licensed Fire Protection Professional Engineer -Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations. -Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion -Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm. -B.S. Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program
