Tasks
Lead the production and review of all HV cable system designs, calculations, reports, and drawings. The Principal / Lead Engineer will be responsible for -Maintain and control documents and drawings in compliance with AS Design & Engineering Ltd. management procedures. -Ensure compliance with client specifications and industry standards (IEC, CIGRE). -Leading the HV cable engineering discipline across multiple projects. -Producing Bonding diagrams -Act as a technical liaison with third parties. -Ensure timely delivery of work within scope, budget, and specifications. -Cable pulling tension calculations -Conduct a site visit to review the cable route and joint bay locations. -Producing Material Schedules & Technical specifications -Guiding and Mentoring junior & senior engineers -Drive innovation and continuous improvement in HV cable design practices. -Design, verify, and approve detailed allocation and construction design drawings. -Producing Joint bay, trench, CSE, cable routing designs (concept & detailed) -Manage engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure project success. -Manage internal and external engineering teams and ensure project delivery within scope, time, and budget -Identify and highlight potential quality and delivery risks. -Providing strategic technical direction and oversight. -Prepare, review, and approve feasibility studies, technical reports, and design documents. -Support the professional development of CAD technicians. -Develop and validate design concepts, drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation. -Mentoring and developing senior and junior engineers. -Provide regular programme updates to Lead Engineers throughout the project lifecycle. -Participate / chair in Design & HAZID (Hazards in Design) reviews as required. -Support the development of internal standards and quality assurance processes. -Oversee design input/output within the designated risk management process. -Establish team-specific standards to ensure consistency and quality. -Take ownership of assigned tasks and responsibilities within agreed job boundaries. -Chair design reviews, HAZID, and hazard assessments. -Ensuring the highest quality of design output and technical documentation. -Supporting business development through technical leadership in bids and tenders. -Act as the primary technical liaison with clients and stakeholders. -Approve bonding/line diagrams, material specifications, and route layouts.

What You Bring
HV Cable Design This role is a senior leadership position with potential to progress into Director-level roles within the business. -Demonstrate a strong understanding of IEC & Cigre standards. -Current ratings (IEC60287) -Strong computer skills, including report writing and documentation. -Strong interpersonal and communication skills -SVL (Sheath Voltage Limiter) sizing -Proven leadership in HV cable engineering -BEng/Bsc/Msc in Electrical & Electronical Engineering, Power systems or related field – or equivalent qualifications and experience -Proficiency in software such as CYMCAP and COMSOL -Strategic thinker with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset -Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. -Competence in creating and formatting high-quality drawings for contractors, suppliers, and fabricators. -Forced ventilation design for cable tunnels -High attention to detail and commitment to quality -Short circuit current rating and electromagnetic force calculations -Relevant certifications in electrical engineering: Working towards or willing to work towards CEng status. Working towards or willing to work towards SR137 CDAE role by National Grid -Cable rating and thermal analysis (IEC60287) -Familiarity with client-specific technical specifications from National Grid, SSE, Scottish Power, NGED, RWE, UKPN, ENWL, etc. -Impressed voltage calculations -Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and mentor engineers
