Tasks

-Organizes bid closing assignments to meet submission deadlines on closing day -Develop relationships with OCL’s key vendors and subcontractors -Take the lead in mechanical and piping estimates, helping to coordinate the efforts for the bid -Oversee and coordinate proposal development, engaging multiple disciplines -Bid & gate reviews with the discipline leads and operations personnel -Analyzes and determines productivities -Solicits pricing from subcontractors and suppliers for labor, equipment and materials, in order to ascertain the lowest price while meeting OCL’s safety and quality standards -Work with operations on labour & material take-offs for each discipline -Provide qualifications and written assumptions that can be discussed with the engineers or the owner while reviewing estimates -Conducts detailed analysis of the contract documents and specifications to determine overall project requirements identifying any associated risk factors, including the monitoring of published addendums that may alter the original scope of the project -Estimating, proposal coordination, and closing of assigned RFP’s -Present cost estimates and other reports to operations and project management -In the absence of the Estimating Manager, coordinate and lead the activities of the team -Provide strong technical writing support to the estimating and project management teams and work closely with subject matter experts, identifying benefits and value-add content for proposal submissions -In conjunction with the Project/OPS Manager reviews special proposal requirements and makes recommendations -Completes final bid submission review and oversees the final tender document submission to the client on behalf of OCL -Completes final cost estimate of a project through the use of Ineight software, incorporating all labor, equipment, and material data, pricing documentation, overhead and profit margins -Assist the project teams in reviewing change orders as required -Coordination of vendor and sub-contractor requirements

What You Bring

-Undergraduate degree in engineering or post-secondary diploma in a construction related discipline or quantity surveying -Ability to use industry relationships with our trade partners to create a competitive advantage -Ability to review and understand Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project schedules -Able to facilitate the development of conceptual estimates and conventional bid submissions with or without complete drawings and specifications -Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures -Sound knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft and Google Office Suite, Google Sheets/Docs/Drive and BlueBeam -Excellent verbal and written communication skills -Minimum of 5+ years of mechanical & piping estimating experience in the construction industry. Preference will be given to those who have previous estimating experience in industrial construction -Experience with estimating software such as InEight is considered an asset -Proven ability to handle multiple projects at one time managing stress and tight deadlines effectively -Ability to recognize risks and opportunities, analyzing and determining the associated costs, impacts to schedule and creating mitigation plans as required
