Tasks

-Maintains statewide responsibility for all bureau programs and activities and represents agency and state in related activities as required; -Prepares and presents reports before the State Board of Education; -Participates and makes recommendations in review and formulation of agency policy, exercises general supervision over various forms of educational programs and services offered by the state to local school authorities, professional organizations, certain lay groups and individuals; -Directs staff, budget and operations of an education division, internal administration and management division or the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System; -Coordinates, plans and manages division activities; -Stay connected! Log in daily to your JobAps Personal Status Board to track your status and check email (including spam/junk folders) for updates and tasks. -Exercises general supervision over internal management policies and programs as offered to local school authorities, professional organizations, other state agencies and State Department of Education staff; -Serves as a member of the Commissioner's Senior Leadership Team; -Oversees fiscal operations of bureaus; -Develops comprehensive long- and short-term goals and objectives which support educational initiatives and agency mission; -Evaluates and assesses staff performance; -Responds to inquiries from the Governor, federal, state and local educators concerning education initiatives and programs of bureaus; -Acts as consultant with respect to these programs and services; -Interprets and administers pertinent laws of bureaus; -Leads the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview and selection;

What You Bring

-For state employees managerial experience is interpreted at the level of an Education Bureau Chief. -Experience ensuring all current federal, state, and local special education legislation, regulations, and guidelines are followed -and ability to interpret and apply relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; -Our preferred applicants will possess certifications in Intermediate Administration (092 Certification) and Special Education (165 Certification) -Certifications in Intermediate Administration (092 Certification) and Special Education (165 Certification) -oral and written communication skills; -principles of professional management; -Experience in classroom instruction -An advanced degree and five (5) years of managerial experience in the oversight of the development or administration of an educational bureau, system, operation, school or service may be substituted for the General and Special Experience. -A 092 certificate (Intermediate Administrator), or 093 certificate (Superintendent), or Sixth Year Diploma in Educational Leadership, or an Ed.D. (Doctorate in Educational Leadership) may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience. -Administrative ability. -philosophy and methods of education, with emphasis on educational administration and management; -Considerable knowledge of -Experience overseeing the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure equity, access, and compliance within state mandated timelines -Supervisory experience in the field of Special Education including overseeing school counseling, social work, nursing and student support services. -Referral Questions: This posting may require completion of additional Referral Questions (RQs), which must be completed by the questionnaire’s expiration date.
