Design and implement quantum sensing systems with NV centers, optics, and integrated photonics.

Tasks

-Design experiments to characterize quantum sensor performance under various environmental conditions -Design and implement optically determined magnetic resonance (ODMR) sensing systems using nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers and other quantum defects. Optimize and upgrade confocal microscopy setups for quantum sensing applications. -Lead efforts to downsize quantum sensing concepts from optical table setups to integrated photonic packages. Develop compact optical systems including miniaturized lasers, photodetectors, and optical components. Optimize system performance while maintaining quantum sensing advantages in miniaturized formats -Investigate novel methodologies for applied quantum techniques outside of sensing applications. -Conduct research on quantum sensing protocols for magnetic field, electric field, temperature, and pressure measurements. Investigate novel quantum sensing modalities and improve sensitivity, spatial resolution, and temporal resolution.

What You Bring

-Ability to work within and contribute to cross-disciplinary research teams with key deliverables including prototypes, intellectual property, and publications (an active interest in publishing is highly desirable). -Background in integrated photonics design and simulation (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL) -Familiarity with electronics design and packaging -Scientific Writing: Clear communication of results to internal research teams using graphs, mathematics, etc. -Willingness to participate in, support, and contribute to work-place safety culture and activities. -Doctorate in Physics, Electrical Engineering or other applicable area -Instrumentation: Experience with microwave electronics, lock-in amplifiers, data acquisition systems, and precision measurement techniques -Experience with quantum communication concepts (e.g., squeezed light, entangled photons) -Optical Systems: Proficiency in laser systems, optical design, confocal microscopy, free-space alignment, and photon detection -Quantum Systems: Deep understanding of quantum defects (NV centers, SiC defects, etc.), quantum sensing protocols, and spin physics -Programming: Strong skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar for data analysis and instrument control
