The Role
Overview
Perform, maintain, and repair HVACR systems for the Housatonic campus facilities.

Tasks
-Although applicants will receive correspondence via email, as a backup they are also encouraged to sign on to their Personal Status Board on a daily basis to monitor their status, view all emailed notices and complete tasks required in the recruitment process. -May operate heavy equipment; -May install, modify, repair and assemble electrical or pneumatic controls for this type of equipment; -Uses and interprets a psychometric chart; -Performs minor tests for fuel specific gravity and gas leaks; -May remove pipe insulation materials associated with repair of pipes and fittings using OSHA approved methods; -Adds water treatment chemicals to boilers; -Ensure that your application is complete and detailed before submitting it. In order to comply with Public Act 21-69, the State of Connecticut is no longer asking for resumes during the initial application process. You will not be able to make revisions once your application is submitted into the JobAps system. -Keeps necessary records; -Operates, maintains, repairs, installs, modifies and assembles air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems which may use Freon or chilled water for air cooling means and air or water for condenser means; -Controls and measures air flow, room air changes and room pressurizing; -May act as liaison with other operating units and outside contacts; -Makes estimates of time, personnel and determines and obtains required materials on assigned tasks; -prepare estimates and keep shop records; -May inspect and repair steam traps fed by main system at various locations; -Determines required cooling capacity of units needed for small areas; -May respond to fire and/or crash emergency situations at state owned airports; -Monitors computerized control systems;

If the institution of higher learning is located outside of the U.S., you are responsible for providing documentation from a recognized USA accrediting service which specializes in determining foreign education equivalencies to the individual listed on this job posting. -Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply standard tools, materials, methods and standard HVACR trade practices; -Performs highly skilled tasks in accordance with standard HVACR trade practices and codes on air systems used in heating, ventilating and refrigeration; -Experience performing technical duties within the HVACR trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier or large compound may be substituted for the General and Special Experience on a year for year basis. -Experience with Commercial HVAC systems -interpersonal skills; -Ability to -University of Connecticut: Incumbents in this class are required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications including possession and retention of a State of Connecticut heating, piping, and/or cooling license. -At other state agencies: Two (2) years of experience as a Qualified Craft Worker Trainee in a designated maintenance trade area may be substituted for the General and Special Experience. -The appointing authority may require completion of hazardous materials training programs, such as asbestos, PCB, PFAS, consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles. -Experience with Chiller operation/Cooling towers -At the University of Connecticut: Satisfactory performance and completion of the UConn Facilities Internship Training Program may be substituted for the General and Special Experience as determined by UConn Facilities Operations and Human Resources Management. -Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class. -A physical examination may be required. -Candidates who are offered and accept a position with the State of Connecticut are bound by the State Code of Ethics for Public Officials and State Employees which is available at www.ct.gov/ethics. -S2 License and/or D2 or higher license -Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in a maintenance trade area may be substituted for two (2) years of the General Experience. -Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles; and may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment, extreme weather conditions and/or environmental conditions.
