The Role
Overview
Operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant and related equipment.

Tasks
-May be required to participate in confined space activities. -Ensure pumps, conveyors, blowers, bar screens, rotary drum thickeners, and other wastewater related equipment operate as designed. -Safely operate company owned vehicles ,including snow plows, and lawn equipment. -Assists with minor repairs and preventive maintenance tasks as required. -Collects samples, reads, gauges, enters data as required. -Performs tasks associated with the upkeep and maintenance of the plant grounds to include painting, grass cutting, debris, and snow removal. -Constantly uses hands to finger, handle or feel and frequently reaches with hands and arms. -Follow all PPE and safety related procedures. -May serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call. -Spends 100% of the time in the operations environment. -May be required to work during wet weather conditions. -Works in various positions; works on ladders, catwalks, and supports at heights of 50 feet above the ground; and works with hands extended above and below head and body up to 40 minutes using hand tools weighing up to 15 pounds.

What You Bring
-Amount of time spent - Standing 25%, Walking 75% for as many as five miles per shift. -Must obtain a valid Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate issued by the State of Rhode Island within one year of appointment to position. -Typically spends 25 - 35% of time exposed to outdoor and sometimes inclement weather. -Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily. -Requires close visual and hearing observation to detect non-conformance and machine malfunction. -Occasional stooping, bending or kneeling and entering confined spaces. -High School Diploma/GED is required. -Some experience in a related position and environment is preferred. -Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently operate equipment to assure proper wastewater treatment procedures are achieved. -Must demonstrate ability to learn and independently operate equipment such as pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters, belt presses and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment. -Must be able to pass a drug test and a criminal background check. -Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). -Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. -Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds (occasionally 60 pounds) distances of 10 feet. -Must be able to work overtime should occasions arise. -Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control and data entry. -Travels 1 - 2 times per year for company provided training. -Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. -Must be able to serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site.
