The role holders will be seen as the leakage champion, undertaking proactive and reactive leakage detection by undertaking specific activities identified through our leakage reports and analysis to meet the requirements of the network and our customers

The Network Leakage Technician (Days) role is a key role which will report to the days Leakage Team Leader within the water network.

The role has been developed to allow the water network department to deliver against its strategic targets by the delivery against the Distribution Operations Maintenance Strategy (DOMS),Leakage, Customer and Efficiency targets within the regulatory framework. This technical role will be pivotal in helping United Utilities water network achieve its Leakage ODI Targets.

  • Check boundary valves in relation to leakage activities
  • Void Property Checks for Leakage Purposes
  • Install/remove loggers
  • Identify strategic valves
  • Locate apparatus
  • Reactive leakage assistance Interpretation and use of flow and pressure data to agree areas of interest for further leakage detection activity
  • Set up site as per NRSWA
  • Incident assistance To ensure all activities comply with Health and Safety Legislation, including confined space entry and dynamic risk assessment
  • Carry out mandatory daily vehicle check
  • Attend meeting and Team Briefs
  • Review industrial users – metering where appropriate
  • Assist other roles, in-day, out of hours and in incidents
  • Raising new work via Toughbook for leak repair including appropriate network interruptions
  • Set up operate and remove standpipe
  • Check CMP Data
  • Operate valve for leakage detection purposes
  • Ensure PPE and equipment is maintained as per standard

  • You will be educated to a good standard – preferably GCSE grade C or above, City and Guilds, or able to demonstrate technical skills
  • Full Clean Driving License is Essential
  • Appropriate leakage detection method depending on requirements of the DMAs (correlating, sounding, pressure zero tests, step testing, data loggers)
  • Action PZT & Step Tests
  • Intensive DMA Interrogation for Leakage Purposes
  • Required to comply with all Health and Safety procedures
  • Team working and communication skills will be an integral requirement of the role
  • This role would be ideal for those people with significant leakage detection and operational experience of the water network
  • Chlorine and Phosphate testing for leakage purposes
  • Capable of operating all machinery, equipment and tools within a difficult working environment
  • Be able to demonstrate the competency to work as part of a high performance team whilst having a proven record of achieving goals, objectives and scorecard measures
