Construction Department Lead / Manager

Overview

Lead and manage a construction inspection team for WVDOH projects.

Tasks

-Assist with growing the Inspection team (WVTRET) and project backlog. -Oversee construction administration and inspection services for state, county and local roadway and bridge projects and municipal utility or infrastructure projects. -Recruit, manage, and train/mentor Team members (TRETs). -Prepare and maintain project records and reports in a timely manner. -Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications. -Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer with status updates or about non-conforming work. -Verify plan quantities and calculations are within bid plans. -Conduct quality control testing at project sites, including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate and reinforcing steel. -This position works independently on broad projects under direction of a Regional Construction Service Line Manager while managing a team of direct reports andprojects. -Oversee the Inspection of construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans and/or proposals on roadway and bridge projects.

What You Bring

-Understanding of construction or engineering services. -Projects are typically in the greater Morgantown area/northern West Virginia region and the greater Charleston area/west-central WV region. Frequent travel within this region is expected. -Experience in performing quality control initiatives and performance testing. -Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather. -Ability to manage projects with little/no supervision. -Experience with standard testing and observation methods. -Preferred certifications but not required: ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Level II Soils, ICC Special inspections. -Strong written and verbal communication skills. -Experience with materials and lab testing. -Ability to read project plans and construction documents. -Ability to provide status updates independently. -Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction engineering services and inspection/testing. -Read project drawings, specifications, and work on a variety of construction projects. -Demonstrated ability of monitoring construction and demolition environments. -Extensive knowledge of highway construction specifications and previous field experience. -Targeting 15+ years of experience with WVDOH-related projects. -Must be able to interact well with others. -Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. -Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles. -Experience with quality control testing and compliance specifications. -Skill in lab reporting, writing reports and maintaining records. -WVDOH large project experience is a strong plus, as well as WVTRET Certification.
