Tasks
-Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and staff. -Perform structural analysis using state-of-the-art software and apply engineering principles to solve complex design challenges -Manage the development of design plans, specifications, and calculations for various transportation and infrastructure projects -Participate in meetings with clients, consultants, and regulatory agencies to discuss project requirements and progress -Lead and oversee bridge design projects from concept through completion, including analysis, design, and preparation of construction documents -Conduct site visits and inspections to assess the condition of existing structures and to monitor construction progress -Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and advancements in structural engineering technology -Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure timely and successful project delivery -Review and approve design plans, calculations, and construction documents for accuracy, completeness, and quality -Ensure compliance with TDOT and other clients’ design standards, guidelines, and specifications -Review contractor submittals and provide recommendations on materials, methods, and construction procedures

What You Bring
-Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university -Proficiency in using bridge analysis software programs such as Open Bridge Designer, CSI Bridge, FB-MultiPier, and other bridge analysis software. Familiarity with drafting software such as MicroStation -A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR) -Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders -Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines -BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university -Valid driver’s license -A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in structural engineering, with a focus on bridge design and plan production -Familiarity with advanced bridge design methodologies and materials -Proven experience working on DOT projects and familiarity with DOT standards and specifications -PE is required (Tennessee PE preferred) -Previous experience with design-build projects -Experience in managing and leading teams of engineers and technical staff -Experience with all phases of bridge design, including analysis, detailing, and plan preparation -Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail -Knowledge of relevant software for structural analysis and design -In-depth understanding of AASHTO and other relevant codes and standards.
