Teach Navy officers navigation, seamanship, and ship handling as an on‑call Master Mariner Instructor.

What You Bring

-Practical understanding of adult learning principles and instructional best practices. -Extensive seagoing leadership as a former senior Navy surface ship commanding officer (minimum 3 years in command, at sea service), or as a USCG licensed master (any gross tons, oceans) with a minimum of 3 years at sea as a ship’s master. -At least 2 years of experience conducting training and assessment with full mission or part-task bridge simulators, or completion of a USCG-accepted Train the Trainer program (IMO model course 6.09), and completion of A-061-0042 VMS Operator Course, A-061-0044 VMS 9 Operator, or an approved equivalent. -Strong computer literacy and the ability to quickly master advanced maritime simulator software and tools. -Collaborative spirit and effective communication -Active or obtainable Secret clearance required. -Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of NSS subject areas, NSS Training Requirements Document (TRD), the Surface Ship Navigation Department Organization and Regulations Manual (NAVDORM), standard Navy conning commands, maritime education best practices, and maneuvering characteristics for all ship classes.
