Tasks

-Provide technical guidance and leadership to layout project staff -Manage large groups of designers on a project, including assigning work to staff -Enhance the world around you - from the environment to the highways, to the buildings and the terrain, WSP is the fabric of Canada. -Review vendor drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs prior to fabrication -Prepare man-hour estimates -Prepare layout technical quality audits across multiple projects -Participate in field engineering assignments -Review all design work related to layout general arrangements and equipment model development -Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure timely and accurate flow of design information while maintaining departmental and client standards -Ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and quality of all layout deliverables and activities on a project -Participate in project cost estimates -Prepare design sketches -Determine layout staffing requirements for projects -Prepare 3D models and layout general arrangements for existing plant upgrades and new facilities -Prepare design calculations and design briefs -Attend model reviews -Maintain and revise equipment libraries, department standards, and procedures -Conduct trade-off studies and prepare reports -Develop and recommend improvements in design standards to reduce costs, improve quality, and facilitate plant maintenance

What You Bring

-Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to perform design engineering; -15+ years experience in mechanical engineering design specifically with experience in layout design for heavy industrial and/or mining projects; -Must have consulting experience; -College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent; -French language skills (written and verbal) an asset; -Strong understanding of mechanical equipment installation requirements in the field; -Strong communication skills (written and verbal); -Proven experience with Plant3D, Revit, Microstation, SolidEdge and SmartPlant; -Strong critical thinking skills and an ability to problem solve effectively. -Strong leadership and management skills; -2+ years experience in a team lead role;
