The Role

Overview

Perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and troubleshooting of HVACR systems.

Tasks

-Meets schedules and timelines. Maintains detailed records and completes routine administration associated with maintenance projects. Assists in the generation of reports as necessary. -Conducts preventative maintenance, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies and installs systems and equipment including but not limited to boilers, condensate traps, heat exchangers, condensate return systems, pressure reducing valves and pressure relief valves. -Conducts regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units, including boilers, gas and electrically operated air conditioning equipment and evaporative coolers and makes necessary adjustments or repairs. -Conducts preventative maintenance, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies and installs systems and equipment including but not limited to refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, chillers, water cooling towers, forced air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves and capillary tubes. -Lubricates heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air-conditioning motors, pumps, fans and other equipment. -Tests and examines HVAC system boiler operations, observes meter and pressure gauges and performs boiler water quality test and treatment. -May assist contractors in calibration of fume hoods and equipment in laboratory. -Conducts preventative maintenance, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies and installs air handling systems and equipment including but not limited to controls, thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, log switches, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, belts, high limit controls, pressure controls, safety valves and automatic gas valves. -Performs electrical maintenance work up to 600 volts in the repair, installation and alteration of HVACR equipment, components, timers, motors and wiring systems as needed. Connects motors to control panels as necessary. -Assists Building Maintenance Persons (BMPs) with performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in District buildings and grounds, as assigned.

What You Bring

-Candidate must possess the ability to calibrate systems, perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing of equipment, diagnose defects and install, repair and maintain heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air-conditioning units and to operate specialized machinery, equipment and tools utilized in the repair, installation and maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. -Ohio Low, High Pressure Boiler Operation or Stationary Engineer license is preferred. -EPA Section 608, universal certification for refrigerants is required within 90 days of appointment. -Candidate must possess considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions. The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate, understand and follow verbal, written and diagrammatic instructions, work cooperatively with others, must also possess knowledge in the operation of HVACR equipment; and the ability to use equipment and tools of the trade. -Candidate must possess a high school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent. Continued education in fields related to the job (electrical, pneumatic systems, hydronic systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration) is preferred. -Candidate must possess knowledge of the standard practices of the HVACR trade, theory of HVACR systems, the materials, methods and tools used in the operation and repair of HVACR systems, applicable building codes, ordinances and regulations of State and local authorities pertaining to HVACR. -Candidate must possess five (5) years of experience performing skilled work in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial equipment in the operation and maintenance of HVACR systems with related training. Experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS) is preferred. -Candidate must be able and capable to fill-in for vacant shifts, emergency or unusual situations. -Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record in accordance with the District’s acceptable guidelines.
