The Role

Overview

Lead mechanical/electrical engineering for mission‑critical construction projects.

Tasks

-Reviews design documents and identifies potential quality problems. Helps develop quality control programs. -Negotiates subcontracts with subcontractors. -Verifies deficiencies are corrected and submits commissioning documentation to owners. -Builds relationships by being the direct face with the client. -Reviews and approves shop drawings prior to submitting to the design team. -Coordinates the mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bid process. -Develops sequencing requirements of various systems and provides solutions to meet the schedule requirements. Provides scheduling input during projects. -Provides mentoring to less experienced co-workers. -Performs job inspections at various times in the project to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality manner. -Assists with the commissioning process including developing pre-functional checklists, functional testing procedures and actual functional testing. -Leads, supports and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn. Understands JE Dunn’s policy of non-discrimination and ensures positive, proactive implementation throughout the organization. -Completes increasingly complex mechanical, electrical and field construction activities. -Reviews mechanical and electrical options, completes systems analysis, recommends best system for the project and provides value engineering suggestions. -Learns and assists with the shop drawing/submittal process to comply with the contract documents. -Assists in developing sequencing requirements of various systems and providing solutions to meet the schedule requirements. -Assumes responsibility for resource allocation, staffing of their assigned projects and ensuring reimbursability requirements are met. -Creates M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes and work products. -Represents the M/E department and JE Dunn at external community events. -Develops budgetary M/E estimates, based upon program and schematic design information. -Purchases equipment from equipment vendors for assigned projects. -Assists in the completion of bid analysis and provides input during the subcontractor selection process. -Participates in interviews for winning work, presentations and business development efforts. -Assists in the review of mechanical and electrical options as part of the preconstruction process and completes systems analysis for select projects. -Completes entry level and routine mechanical, electrical and field construction activities. -Generates and issues the Commissioning Plan for approval to the appropriate parties. -Develops pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures. Verifies contractor’s performance of functional test.

-Communication skills, verbal and written (Advanced). -Learns and actively participates in all aspects of the company’s safety and quality plans and culture by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others. -Learns to perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner. -Ability to apply Lean process and philosophy (Advanced). -Proficiency in scheduling software (Intermediate). -Ability to construct a project from start to finish. -Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability and generate future work through building relationships (Advanced). -Learns to develop the mechanical and electrical scopes of work used to coordinate during the bid process. -Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and specifications. -Valid and unrestricted drivers license required -In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered. -Proficiency in basic JE Dunn construction M/E tools and software. -Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner. -Ability to complete range estimates. -Gains knowledge of design documents in order to identify potential quality problems to assist in developing constructability review reports. -Proficiency in MS Office (Advanced). -Ability to manage a team. -Demonstrated knowledge of ASE and Lens (Intermediate). -Ability to build relationships with team members that transcend a project. -Ability to prepare the project budget, GMP or hard bid. -Thorough knowledge of project processes and how each supports the successful completion of a project. -Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering or related field (Required). -Ability to assist Marketing team with presentation and marketing activities. -Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally. -Proficiency in BIM (Building Information Modeling) (Intermediate). -Learns how to develop budgetary M/E estimates, based upon program and schematic design information using automated M/E estimating system. -Proficiency in required construction technology (Advanced). -10+ years construction management experience (Preferred). -Ability to apply fundamentals of the means and methods of construction management to projects. -Ability to conduct effective presentations (Advanced).
