May attend meetings with clients and contractors to ensure satisfactory project completion.
Review plans and prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
Perform feasibility studies, structural planning, detailed design work, permitting and bidding on a variety of waterfront heavy industrial structures.
Complete engineering design and drawing work using computer aided software.
Participate in preparing reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects.
Work closely with more senior project team members to learn about and assist with civil/structural engineering work.
Keep abreast of the latest technical developments in general structural, waterfront, heavy industrial and building technology.
Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially complex assignments, modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. Work is completed using advanced (engineering) techniques and (design) principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement. Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.
Participate in the permitting, planning, design, construction inspection and construction management efforts for a variety of structural marine engineering projects.
Conduct frequent visits to or may be placed on project sites to monitor construction, assist with construction and structural site inspections, and make assessments. Prepare inspection reports.
Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on moderately complex projects.
Participate in resolving design problems that may include performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations or coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
May perform office construction administrative duties such as reviewing drawings and technical submittals.

Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
Master's degree in structural engineering a plus.
Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Strong sense of urgency in responding to constituents.
Basic understanding of ASCE, AISC, ACI, AWS, and other relevant marine, port, and coastal construction and structural design codes, standards, regulations, and compliance practices.
Minimum three (3) years of experience, preferably working in marine infrastructure (ports, harbors, etc.).Less experience may be considered for exceptional candidates.
Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Working knowledge of construction plans.
Successful completion of background check, safety training, non-DOT pre-employment and random post-employment drug screening.
Highly motivated and problem-solving attitude.
Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or related field required.
Valid state driver's license and ability to successfully complete motor vehicle records check OR a reliable form of transportation to/from office and/or project site(s) preferred.
Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
Ability to effectively manage multiple time-sensitive tasks.
Frequent local travel to and/or work in an outdoor environment which may include being on watercraft, adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Professional registration preferred.
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
E.I.T. registration preferred.
