The Role
Overview
Design and develop complex off‑highway and marine engine components as a senior mechanical engineer.

Tasks
-Ensures design files and documentation are kept up to date, and stored in accordance with department procedures. -Meeting design timing plans on assigned tasks. -Carries out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling, basic stress calculations, FMEA’s, 2D layouts, 2D detailing, Tolerance stacks as required. Agreeing the design approach with the project Chief or Lead Designer. -Carry out design change requests as per process and in a timely manner. -The mechanical design of components through concept, definitive and detail design phases. -If required, generates minutes from design reviews. -Keeps up to date with and dissemination of: -Creation of component or system design plans. -Work closely with manufacturing and process engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacture & assembly. -Highlights all mechanical technical risks to the chief designer or engineering manager. -Creation of technical reports and documentation as required for engineering projects. -Responsible for the following engineering activities: -Creation of 2D drawings to allow manufacture or purchase. -Liaise with suppliers and other Ricardo departments to ensure the required information is available when needed and customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner -Liaise directly with the customer as required. -Responsible for preparing and presenting mechanical designs at design reviews. -Creation of assembly drawings and bill of materials. -Responsible for reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the project management teams, chief designer or engineering manager.

What You Bring
-latest developments in design tools. -Preferred experience in any of off-highway, heavy duty diesel, industrial, medium speed, marine or large engine areas. -Fit and function of their responsible parts or system and their interaction with other systems. -Experienced user of CREO. -Effective problem solving capabilities. -Broad range of mechanical design knowledge with experience in Engine design, preferred experience with any of castings, housings, air paths, cranktrain, cylinder head, cylinder block, fuel systems, etc. -Able to communicate effectively in English at all levels. -Familiarity of technical specifications. -Ability to work to tight deadlines. -Good communication skills, dealing with other employees, external clients & suppliers. -Degree (Bachelor or Masters) in mechanical engineering or similar field or with equivalent experience. -latest manufacturing techniques and drawing standards. -Able to produce designs to specified deadlines and achieves required timescales. -Ability to understand and produce technical drawings to high standard with GD&T competency. -Experience as a Design Engineer. -Ability to work with minimum supervision. -PLM experience, PTC Windchill referred. -Confident proactive character, ability to take the lead in challenging situations. -Layout drawings are up to date.
