Reverse Engineer Intern

Kbr, Inc.

The Role

Overview

Intern role focusing on hardware and protocol reverse engineering of low-cost drones.

Key Responsibilities

  • protocol analysis
  • parser development
  • binary rehost
  • reverse engineering
  • drone testing
  • architecture analysis

Tasks

-Rehost communications binaries in an emulated environment to validate parser functionality. -Contribute to solutions that address rapidly growing customer needs for CUAS technology and battlefield communications security. -Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to follow-on research and transition to operational use. -Analyze and characterize the communications protocols of on-board mesh communications devices. -Develop communications protocol parsers for baseline electronic support capability. -Document findings and present results to technical and non-technical stakeholders. -Perform hardware reverse engineering to identify on-board components. -Work with real-world COTS drones and, where available, higher-end mesh radios. -Extract system binaries from drone communications devices. -Identify the most common components among low-cost drone manufacturers. -Develop and apply skills in embedded systems, protocol analysis, and vulnerability identification. -Characterize the standard architecture of loitering munitions, low-cost ISR drones, and light attack drones.
