The Role

Overview

Inspect highway/bridge construction daily to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and safety standards.

Tasks

-Observe quality assurance testing and review test results for conformance with contract requirements. -Attend pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees. -Under the review and direction of the Project Manager, perform field inspection and oversight of highway and bridge construction activities. -Review equipment utilization data and time and cost estimates. -Oversee construction record-keeping activities; recommend payments to contractors; recommend change orders, extra work orders/supplemental agreements; revies proposed change orders submitted by consultants; prepare reports. -Document work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project through daily work reports submitted to Project Manager. -Monitor project phasing and traffic control plans and ensure compliance with approved safety standards; inspect barricades as required; move traffic control devices and barricades. -Review contract documents to verify compliance with governmental regulations and conformance with project requirements. -Serve as a lead worker or project leader. -Perform engineering-related planning, design, data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review. -Analyze procedures to identify deficiencies; recommend improvements to management.

What You Bring

-Experienced in surveying procedures, standards and instruments. -High school diploma or equivalent. -Minimum 1-3 years of construction roadway and bridge inspection. -Knowledge of pavement construction, resurfacing, rehabilitation, and repair of asphalt and concrete pavement. -Certifications through TxAPA, ACI, SWPPP, and OSHA required. -Knowledge of Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD). -Familiarity with Site Manager and/or Primavera preferred, but not required. -Experienced in applying basic mathematical equations. -Valid Class C driver’s license. -Experienced with Microsoft Office. -Thorough knowledge of TxDOT specifications and standards preferred. -Required to work overtime as necessary which may include night shifts and/or flexible schedules.
