Staff Accountant

Overview

Handles accounting, reporting, compliance, payroll, and internal controls for the firm.

Tasks

-Support in the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to enhance and strengthen internal controls. -Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with US GAAP. -Ensure compliance with tax regulations and prepare or assist with the preparation of necessary documentation for tax filings. This may include preparing or assisting with the preparation and filing tax returns. -Provide guidance on accounting matters to other departments, fostering cross-departmental collaboration. -Monitor and control expenses, identifying areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements. -Work with HR to update employee information for benefits enrollment and changes. -Support the administration of employee benefits programs (e.g. health insurance, retirement plans). -Assist at month end and year end closing process by preparing and reviewing journal entries and reconciling accounts. (Could include income statement, account reconciliation, and budget preparation). -Assist in processing bi-weekly payroll for employees, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, overtime and bonuses. -Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and accounting standards. -As directed, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software. -Ensure that all transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger. -Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit. -Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.

What You Bring

-Highly proficient with accounting software. -A minimum of two (2) years accounting experience. -Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. -Ability to work independently, self-directed, and collaborate effectively with others. -Experience in the AEC (architecture, engineering, construction) industry is strongly preferred but not required. -Experience in Deltek Vantagepoint is a plus. -Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. -Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment. -Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles. -A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline is required. -Familiarity with Deltek Vision, Vantagepoint, or equivalent accounting software preferred. -Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting. -Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. -Preferred knowledge of the engineering industry.
