The Role

Overview

Inspect highway, bridge, and maintenance construction projects ensuring compliance and quality.

Tasks

-Performa daily record keeping of project activities. -Foster a partnering relationship with contractors, the general public, and other project stakeholders. -Prepare monthly project estimates. -Monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contractor compliance of moderate complexity under the supervision of senior inspectors. -Act and make decisions independently for routine project issues. -Train and supervise trainee inspectors.

What You Bring

-VDOT Pavement Marking -Proficient in the use of iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and/or OneDrive. -OSHA 10-Hours OSHA Safety Training -Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion. -SENIOR CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR LEVEL: High School diploma with a minimum of six years of relevant experience and/or an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology. -Ability to work outside in various weather conditions. -VDOT or NICET Level II Soil and Aggregate Compaction -Good written and verbal communication skills. -VDOT or NICET Level II Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field -VDOT Guardrail Certification -CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR LEVEL: High School diploma with a minimum of three years of relevant experience and/or an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology. -Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions. -VDOT Slurry Surfacing -Working knowledge of state and federal environmental, safety, EEO guidelines and regulations. -Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed. -Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans and contract specifications. -Virginia DEQ Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection -Working knowledge of roadway, structure and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, construction symbols and terminology. -Nuclear Gauge Safety and Hazmat Training -VDOT Flagger Certification -Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks. -Working knowledge of mathematics in both algebra and geometry. -Must be able to lift and carry up-to 50 pounds, on occasion. -Virginia DEQ Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification
