Tasks

-Ensure infection control and prevention.Implement, develop and assess effectiveness of infection prevention principles and requirements for the facility and staff. -Participate in counseling and/or education for residents, family members or staff in coordination with the Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing. -Provide education to ensure that all clinical staff are competent in their practice and skills set to promote the admission of increasingly complex residents and promote effective clinical outcomes of all residents. -Provide proper orientation for all LHCC employees for departmental orientation and other county policies as appropriate. -Communicate and interpret policies and procedures to nursing staff practice and implementation. -Act in an administrative capacity in the absence of the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator – LHCC. -Direct the investigation of alleged resident abuse, neglect or misappropriation and submit to the state as warranted. -Develop, maintain and implement clinical policies and procedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, facility mission, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. -Participate in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel and assure sufficient staff is hired. -Participate in the admission process of prospective residents in terms of assessing their nursing needs and ensuring appropriate placement. -Participate in state and federal nursing home surveys. Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring plans of correction for nursing service deficiencies as warranted. -Work on-call as determined and assigned by Director of Nursing. -Oversee nursing schedules to assure they meet resident needs and regulatory and budgetary standards. -Assess, develop, and provide education to meet the needs of all clinical staff based on facility assessment, quality assurance audits, federal and state law and requirements. -Support and practice the mission, philosophy and objectives of the nursing department to ensure quality care to all residents. -Provide clinical expertise to facilitate and support the nursing process in resident interventions/care provided. -Maintain current knowledge of applicable Medicare, managed care, and state Medicaid regulations, reimbursement systems and methodologies. -Assist in care and nursing duties on the unit as needed or directed, including but not limited to medication administration, unit nurse duties, admissions, discharges and transfers. -Manage facility wound program for all residents and assist nursing staff with wound care and provide education, including assessment, logging, and communication regarding wounds. -Make decisions by interpreting and applying department policies and practices with general managerial direction as needed.

What You Bring

-Infection Preventionist certification preferred or the ability to obtain within 3 months of hire. -Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts. -Minimum of three years of geriatric experience, preferably in long-term care with progressive leadership experience. -Proven experience in ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, as well as ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. -Profeciency in use of these tools: Audio/Visual Equipment, various related medical devices, Dictaphone, telephone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine. -Wound certification preferred. -Required to actively persuade and/or direct others toward the achievement of expected outcomes. -Current Washington, DC Registered Nurse license required.
