Tasks

-You will develop and deliver workshops, job aids, and resource materials on grant management, compliance, and reporting best practices. -You will establish and document robust internal accounting controls to safeguard public funds, including approval workflows and segregation of duties. -You will provide ongoing technical assistance, coaching, and system support to program and project managers, enhancing organizational grant administration capabilities. #ZR -You will design, implement, and maintain a grants tracking database integrated with the organization’s accounting system. You will also develop dashboards, reporting tools, and user-access protocols to enable real-time monitoring and strategic decision-making. -You will manage grant receivables, revenues, drawdowns, and forecasting, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and ledger postings. You will also integrate awards into the annual budget, process journal entries, and reconcile eligible expenditures monthly to the general ledger. -You will mentor and oversee Grant Accountants and direct reports, fostering expertise in grant accounting practices such as journal entries, cost allocation, and month-end closing. You will also set performance goals, conduct coaching sessions, and cultivate a collaborative, accountability-driven team culture focused on financial accuracy. -You will be responsible for developing, documenting, and updating Port-wide accounting policies related to grants and Passenger Facility Charges (PFCs). This includes interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Uniform Guidance (2 CFR -You will oversee the preparation and submission of financial and performance reports including the annual SEFA (Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards), prepare ad-hoc analyses, and coordinate with external auditors regarding the Port’s Single Audit.

You build strong relationships and deliver results under pressure. -Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State. -Expertise – You effectively apply Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) or Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards with ease and have a solid understanding of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), including administrative, cost, and audit rules for federal awards. You’re experienced in internal controls, complex accounting systems, and system-generated reporting. You’ve created organizational policies and bring senior-level experience in staff leadership, setting goals, managing performance, and giving feedback. -Effective Communicator – You write and speak clearly, organize your thoughts well, and adjust your message for different audiences. You actively listen and can explain financial or accounting concepts to people without financial backgrounds. -Experienced – You have five (5) years of Accounting/Financial management experience including responsibility for accounting operations and systems related to assets management, grant administration, and delivery of accounting or financial systems, to include two (2) years of supervisory, leading, or mentoring experience, including leading a project or program related to accounting operations, systems, and/or financial reporting. -Certifications – You are an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA). -Analytical Problem-Solver – You gather and evaluate complex data to guide decisions and improve processes. You’re skilled at identifying root causes and offering timely, effective solutions. -Desired – We hope you have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics and/or business administration. We hope you are a certified grants management specialist.
