Tasks

-Assist in preparing conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings and engineering reports -Apply standard practices and techniques to accomplish work assignments -Prepare temporary traffic control plan/traffic management plan (TMP) and signing, pavement marking plans -Attends appropriate team meetings -Work on detailed engineering assignments including calculations and relatively standard work activities -Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies. Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members -Identify and analyze problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions -Assist with and prepare roadway design plans -Prepare technical reports for traffic impact studies, interchange access requests, or safety studies -Prepare and management the development of traffic impact studies, land use planning, master plan studies, traffic signal warrant studies, bikeway planning and design, community and campus planning, technical report writing -Prepare Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) design plans -Adheres to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual -Prepare traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signal modifications to facilitate multimodal accommodations -Leading or assisting in the development of project designs and directing EIs to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client focused strategies -Adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results

What You Bring

-Familiarity with DOT traffic design standards, MUTCD and AASHTO -ITE membership will be preferred, if not already a member -Aspires to work in a team environment and is willing to participate in business development efforts and meetings with clients. -PTP or PTOE is desired but not required -Understands and adheres to assigned phase and task schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of project -Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines -8-12 years relevant experience in traffic engineering -PE is required (Tennessee PE preferred) -TDOT experience is preferred but not required -BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university -Valid driver’s license -Proficiency in traffic analyses software such as VISSIM, Synchro/Simtraffic, Sidra Intersection, HCS -Must have proven skills in meeting DOT expectations, schedules and budgets -Knowledge in transportation planning, including comprehensive corridor analysis, DOT local programs, public involvement, safety and access, pedestrian and bicycle planning, multimodal planning and traffic operations -A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR) -Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer desired but not required
