  • Delivery of fire consultancy, fire strategies and design reviews for new construction projects and refurbishments
  • Raise / promote the level of technical excellence relating to fire engineering within the company
  • Assisting in the development of further fire related opportunities through technical articles and internal promotion of the Fire Engineering discipline
  • To undertake fire safety design on projects across a variety of sectors with an excellent understanding of regulatory requirements and relevant standards
  • Keep informed of design trends, competitor innovation and advance in techniques
  • In conjunction with the Head of Department, develop the fire engineering offering for the company
  • Authoring Fire Strategies including balance recommendation of passive and active provisions to achieve compliant and safe solution
  • Maintain good relationships with Client’s key representatives
  • Undertake design checks and reviews in accordance with company procedures
  • Responsible for assisting in the delivery of project to meet budget, timeframe and quality targets, meeting or exceeding client expectations
  • Delivery of fire management audits of client properties by reviewing evidence which demonstrates compliance
  • Provide technical advice on fire related subjects / latest legislation to the multi-disciplinary teams across the UK offices. Occasional International projects may arise

Working across a variety of sectors we envisage you will carry out detailed fire engineering design and analysis, fire hazard identification and fire risk assessment, smoke control design, all while developing compliant fire strategies. It is therefore imperative that you have a proven track record of project delivery, together with notable projects across a variety of sectors.

A prerequisite to the role is experience in developing, recruiting and leading a team of people. We are looking for an exceptional individual who can shape and develop the Fire Engineering offering for the company.

  • Excellent understanding of the legislations and British Standards including Building Regulations, BS EN 9999, BS 5839, BS 5306, BS 8644, BS EN 12845, BN, EN, ASTM and ISO standards etc
  • Extensive fire safety design experience in a design consultancy environment
  • Able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in proactive way
  • Qualified to degree level in Fire Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering or similar (Accredited by the Institution of Fire Engineers) with relevant experience
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Recognised professional membership of Fire Engineering Institution
  • Stakeholder management skills and a can-do attitude
  • Able to understand and express technical concepts in written and verbal language
  • Strong communication skills - ability to communicate professionally with all levels of stakeholders including building owners, architects, code officials, contractors and sub-contractors
  • Eligible to pass criteria for security clearance and airside pass applications
  • Capable of working under pressure and on several projects simultaneously
  • Experience of delivering fire engineering solutions in the following sectors is an advantage: Life sciences & manufacturing, Aviation, Defence, Nuclear, Power, Public Sector and Rail
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment and bring value from assimilated wider knowledge of other disciplines
  • Be a competent user of office IT and fire safety design tools
  • Educated to degree level in a related discipline, you have gained relevant experience in Fire Engineering design (i.e. smoke control calculations, CFAST zone modelling, field modelling and evacuation modelling etc), and have proven your technical understanding in relevant design software
