The Role

Overview

Test and energize substation equipment, support design, and provide on-site engineering.

Tasks

-Support the design, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems by checking rack wiring and cables. -Troubleshoot and provide on-site technical support to craft/customer personnel in the field. -Facilitate projects on site, including requesting outages and verifying that materials arrive on site, with oversight and guidance from the manager or lead engineer. -Inspect completed installations and verify operations to maintain conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards. -Verify CT/PT ratio, CT polarity, transformer impedance, power factor for transformers, timing of power circuit breakers, and insulation voltage withstand tests. -Perform testing of substation equipment, primarily power circuit breakers, transformers, and static capacitors under the guidance of a commissioning engineer or technician. -Perform detailed calculations to establish construction and installation standards and specifications. -Test Substation Control equipment including Protective Relaying, SCADA, microwave radio, Transfer Trip, and PLC’s with instructions and guidance from the lead engineer. -Assist in coordinating construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, or testing activities to maintain compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements. -Collaborate with design staff during the engineering phase to understand design philosophy and provide field information/valid requirements. -Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering tasks under the direction of a Lead Engineer.

What You Bring

-Experience using PLS-CADD, Bentley ProjectWise, and MS SharePoint is preferred. -Experience at an electric transmission utility with the use of PLS-CADD to analyze or design transmission lines is desirable. -Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. -3 months of Electrical Engineering experience in design or analysis, which may include college or charitable/voluntary engineering projects. -Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET accredited college/university in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
