Overview

Lead US Utilities EHS team, drive safety programs, compliance, and performance

Tasks

-Walkdown jobsite performing audits and inspections and ensure key programs are implemented and controls are in place as per Aecon requirements and Site-specific EHS Management Plan. Review and audit applicable EHS documentation. -Develop and deliver presentations to management, workers, sub-contractors, and clients. -Mentor and coach project management, craft and supervision in the field with regards to safety roles and responsibilities and compliance with safety standards. -Ensures Aecon EHS Program is successfully implemented on all US-based projects. Work with senior management to continuously improve Aecon’s Health and Safety Programs. -Liaise with external parties such as regulatory agencies, government inspectors, sub-contractors, and general public. -Ensures site-specific EHS documentation and plans are in place before work commences, with risk and mitigation strategies defined. -Works with Operations Leadership to ensure adequate EHS resources are in place as business continues to expand in the US -Support proposal development, as required. -Maintain a pulse on EHS related concerns or developments and provide pragmatic and timely solutions to address issues that impact the attainment of business objectives -Maintain and update EHS Program Procedures, as required. -Lead and align a team of Operational EHS direct reports in a growing business to EHS’ strategic intent by focusing the teams’ activities and holding each individual accountable for results -Monitor and report on EHS performance to operational leadership, inform corrective strategies. -Assist and support with the development of site-specific safety training and orientation of workers, supervisors, staff, subcontractors and clients. -Represent the Company at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters. -Ensure you and your family receive the services needed to support your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. -Drives consistent implementation of Aecon EHS strategy, vision, programs, policies and initiatives across operational sector / project(s) -Mentor project leadership in the requirements of conventional safety procedures.

What You Bring

-Relevant Post-Secondary education or equivalent experience in the Environment, Health and Safety field -Ability to travel extensively, as required -Ability to develop and maintain a network of industry-wide contacts. -Demonstrated ability to oversee and lead multiple personnel over large geographic areas. -Ability to contribute to and communicate a companywide long-term vision and a strategy to achieve short, medium and long-term goals. -Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment -Exceptional organizational and time management skills -Excellent knowledge of EHS Management Systems and their implementation. -Data fluency (dashboards, trend analysis) and facilitation skills across crews, supervision, and management. -Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal, and written communication skills -Ability to identify training gaps; generate effective solutions; and provide recommendations for improvement. -Experience working in a unionized or non-unionized environment -Highly self-motivated team player with a participative management style and strong interpersonal skills. -Demonstrated ability to stand-up a rigorous EHS Program on new projects. -Understanding of OSHA 1904 Recordkeeping, Case Management, Workers Compensation Insurance requirements, and return to work program -Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of US EHS legal requirements including OSHA regulations and legislations required -Incident Investigation training/experience considered an asset -Previous experience in a leadership role required -Ability to lead and/or oversee major incident investigations. -Excellent meeting and training facilitation -Minimum 5 years’ experience coordinating and managing health and safety for construction operations
