Overview

Lead regulatory filings, strategy and liaison with BC energy regulators for an energy company.

Tasks

-Proactively identify and define emerging regulatory issues and risks, recommending appropriate courses of action to senior management and decision-makers. -Lead multi-disciplinary project teams in the preparation and submission of routine to complex regulatory filings and applications (e.g., permits, licenses, compliance updates). -Provide coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior and intermediate regulatory staff to foster skill development and regulatory expertise within the team. -Liaise directly with government and regulatory officials, effectively representing the company in its regulatory applications and proceedings. -Analyze and assess regulatory risks and opportunities for new business considerations and corporate initiatives. -Provide leadership, strategic advice, and risk analysis during regulatory proceedings or public hearings with various federal and provincial regulatory bodies, including the BC Energy Regulator (BCER) and the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO). -Support expert witnesses and the legal team throughout regulatory hearings. -Oversee the accurate and timely preparation and drafting of all regulatory documents. -Coordinate internal and external resources to formulate comprehensive and strategic responses to Information Requests (IRs) and compliance conditions from regulatory agencies.

What You Bring

-Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to drafting and reviewing regulatory documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance. -Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex regulatory concepts to technical staff, management, and regulatory bodies. -Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as Law, Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field -Current experience with British Columbia (BC) regulations, including familiarity with the application processes and operational procedures of the BC Energy Regulator (BCER) (or former OGC) and/or the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO). -5+ years of progressive experience in a regulatory and permitting role, preferably within the energy, utilities, or natural resource sector. -Strategic Thinking and Problem Solving: Takes initiative to define complex issues and develop effective, recommended courses of action. -Strong regulatory background with a proven track record of successfully managing and submitting regulatory filings and appearing before regulatory bodies. -Interpersonal and Leadership: Proven ability to effectively lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams and successfully represent the company externally to government and regulatory officials.
