Tasks

-Analyse market and environmental behaviour to spot opportunities for improvement and financial gain. -Support and coach your team, helping others reach their full potential. -Lead by example in health and safety, creating a safe environment for everyone. -Work closely with key team members to proactively manage issues and support Contact’s strategy. -Monitor environmental and plant conditions, ensuring compliance with the Resource Management Act (RMA) and other regulations. -Schedule and dispatch assets within hydrological and legislative constraints, optimising fuel efficiency and plant capability. -Operate Contact’s generation assets safely using real-time SCADA and other systems.

What You Bring

-Practical understanding of power generation or heavy machinery. -An understanding of how to deal with complexities and ambiguity, and a sense of urgency when managing issues but without compromising quality. -A relevant technical qualification (Technician/NZCE Level Engineering – Mechanical/Electrical, National Certificate Power Systems Control Level 4, or New Zealand recognised equivalent). -Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing others. -Awareness of the RMA and its role in compliance. -A great attitude, with commercial nous and clever thinking to help us identify opportunities to create value in the ever-changing New Zealand Electricity Markets. -The ability to clearly convey complex issues to a diverse audience (including those of us who are not technically minded). -Strong business acumen and commercial awareness. -Ability to work independently and as part of a team during 12-hour shifts on a rotating roster. -Familiarity with electricity market operations and compliance. -Experience in the electricity industry, or in a control room, continuous process, or trading environment. -Experience building and managing diverse technical teams. -Proven analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

-Contact Energy Limited is a New Zealand-based electricity generator, natural gas wholesaler, and retailer of electricity, natural gas, broadband and LPG. -The company was formed in 1996 when it acquired electricity generation and gas assets from state-owned electricity generator ECNZ. -Contact Energy is listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX) under the ticker CEN. -For the fiscal year 2024, Contact Energy reported a net profit of NZ$235 million and total revenue of NZ$2.86 billion. -The company operates 11 power stations across New Zealand, using geothermal, hydro, and thermal energy to generate electricity. -Contact Energy's generation portfolio is predominantly renewable, with 80-85% of its electricity produced from hydro and geothermal stations. -The company is currently undertaking a five-year project to replace half of the 60-year-old hydropower turbines at the Roxburgh Power Station. -Contact Energy is developing new renewable energy projects, including the Tauhara geothermal power station and the Te Huka Unit 3 expansion. -The company is also investing in solar and wind projects, such as the Kōwhai Park Solar Farm and the Southland Wind Farm. -Contact Energy has partnered with Tesla to develop a 100MW grid-scale battery on New Zealand Steel land in Glenbrook, south Auckland.
