The Role

Overview

Develop detailed cost estimates for large industrial civil projects, coordinating with engineering and procurement teams.

Tasks

-Promotes efforts to find innovative estimating methods to generate consistent, cost effective and accurate solutions to tight schedules and quick turnaround on estimates. -Develop complete estimates for very large, complex industrial projects. -Lead estimate review presentations -Become familiar with industry norms for estimating metrics and ratios to identify and explain reasons for any deviations from these norms. -Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. -Identifies and collaborates with his/her discipline team to eliminate any gaps in technical deliverables for estimates. -Collaborates with engineering team for expertise. -Collaborate with procurement, vendors, and other disciplines to ensure pricing and quantities are correct. -Suggest appropriate alternatives for consideration by engineering team as needed to optimize constructability. -Identify relatively common code and spec interpretations that will yield a well-proven, technically compliant but more cost effective, fit-for-purpose design. -Perform Cross-Discipline Communication. -Read the specifications and develop notes for the unique or extraordinary items. -Generate and review RFP packages for pricing on engineered equipment, subcontracts, and permanent materials. -Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required. -Brings solutions to team with cost analysis. -Become familiar with codes and standards to review engineering design.

What You Bring

-Ability to develop scope from RFP (Request for Proposal) documents and work with discipline team to estimate work without gaps or overlaps. -Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint). -3+ years of experience in a related role bidding industrial projects is preferred. -Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment. -Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done. -Regular, reliable attendance -Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills. -Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in construction-related Technology or Engineering OR extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above. -Work productively and meet deadlines timely -Ability to review civil deliverables (Drawings) and understand construction needs. -Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies. -Become familiar with how to build the project (best practices, sequence, geographical challenges etc.) -Work well as a team player with the desire to win the project. -Become familiar with how to be the low bidder. -Must be capable of assisting with major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.
